When I see religious people perpetuate homophobia, I don’t feel particularly fazed. Even though I do not believe in god now, I was deeply religious as a child and the concept of hell used to fill me with constant dread. Burning in it again and again, over and over. Being made to feed upon your own blood and pus. For an eternity. Eternity itself is a dreadful thing to wrap your mind around, especially for a child who has lived so little, an eternity filled with agony is just that much scarier. So yes, I get it, I get what drives the homophobic religious people.

But what annoys me is when religious people attempt to use pseudoscience to justify their homophobia. Go ahead and revel in your homophobia using religion as an excuse all the while you break the other rules of your religion such as watching television and what not, but do not bring science into this. Science does not agree with you.

And then, even more annoying is the influx of self-satisfied atheists who are homophobic and transphobic. They do not believe in any higher power destroying their cities if LGBT+ people are allowed their rights, but they decide to nonetheless be shitty human beings just for the sake of it.

They’re the people who go “Pffft religion? No, sire. I use pseudoscience to justify my bigotry!”

They are the kind of people who as a wise man had once said, “reminds one of children, assuring everyone who is ready to listen to them that they are not afraid of the bogeyman.”

Instead of using their lack of faith in god to be unfettered from the prejudices that religions had installed in them, they instead wear it only as a badge to condescend religious people.

I’ve seen both religious people and atheists say, “What’ll happen to this species of ours, if every single human were to only make love to their sex? We would go extinct!”

This is of course, as foolish a non-point to make such as “We would all go extinct if everyone in our society were to be a doctor and no one was there to grow crops or farm or hunt animals.”

We shall not all become doctors, such as we shall not all be attracted to someone we can not procreate with.

I’ve seen people say “You would not have taken birth if your parents were gay!”

I wouldn’t have taken birth if my parents had used condoms in the night of my conception either. Shall we then ban condoms and discourage safe sex? I’d not have been born if my father were to complain about the tea my mother had made him that night and that lead to an argument among them resulting in my father sleeping in the couch. Let us then also ban coffee and couches as well.

I’ve seen people say “Homosexuality results in AIDS!”

Unsafe sex without condom and such tends to result in AIDS. Both heterosexuals and homosexuals can suffer from this and other sex-related illnesses.

I’ve seen people insist that “Homosexuality is unnatural as there are no presence of homosexuality among animals!”

It is a straight up lie. Homosexuality is, in fact, present among animals. When you point out this fact with proof to homophobes, may they  be religious or atheist, they forget that it was they themselves who had brought up the talk of it being, according to them, unnatural. And they say “Animals kill each other and rape each other too. So should we accept murder and rape as natural?”

This is again a bullshit point, acts such as murder and rape results in the loss of victims. It results in the harm of victims. This is why these acts are nefarious and those that commit it are the worst example of our species.

But there is indeed no victim when adult consenting human beings of the same gender love each other and make  love to each other. That’s what makes it different than murder and rape and this should be obvious to anyone not bullshitting themselves.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, I’d have more respect for homophobes if they stopped using pseudoscience and non-arguments and far stretched what-if scenarios and false or misinterpreted statistics to justify their homophobia to themselves and simply went ahead and presented themselves as they are. Either being homophobic entirely because of their religion, or as is the case with atheist homophobes – being homophobic because they are a shitty excuse for a human being who love putting other people in a disadvantage.
