Mondro is a Bangladeshi queer feminist archive organization that focuses on queer art and culture. It is the first and largest public queer archive in the country, dedicated to collecting and preserving the artistic and cultural history of marginalized gender and sexual communities. Through artistic and cultural practices, Mondro also contributes to movements for queer inter-communality, feminism, and rights for social and environmental justice. Mondro’s goal is to preserve the existence and struggles of these communities by documenting and practicing their history and ongoing social movements for gender and sexual diversity. The word ‘Mondro’ means a deep, somber sound, and the organization was established on 24th November 2019.
Who are we?
We are queer people in Bangladesh. We are surviving a social and political situation where our existence is denied, our voices are silenced, and our organizers are murdered.
Mission
Uplift queer voices and promote histories of gender and sexual diversity in Bangladesh in order to sensitize contemporary society.
Vision
Recognize and give space to Bangladeshi queer products that are forgotten and erased from dominant history.
